André Sorin

André Sorin MSC (born June 7, 1903 in Les Sables-d'Olonne , France , † April 19, 1959 ) was a Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

Sorin initially intended to become a diocesan priest , but then decided to join the Sacred Heart Missionaries and took his religious vows in 1925 . On August 4, 1929 he was ordained a priest . On June 13, 1946, Sorin, who had been in New Guinea since 1931 , was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Port Moresby , Titular Bishop of Antiphrae and Apostolic Administerator of Samarai . He was ordained bishop on August 24, 1946 by Cardinal Giovanni Panico ; Co - consecrators were Francis-Xavier Gsell , Bishop of Darwin , and Gerard Vesters , former Vicar Apostolic of Rabaul . In 1951, Francis John Doyle assumed responsibility for Samarai as Prefect Apostolic .

André Sorin died on April 19, 1959 at the age of 55 and was buried on Yule Island .
