Alain Guynot de Boismenu
Alain Marie Guynot de Boismenu MSC (born December 27, 1870 in Saint-Malo , France , † November 5, 1953 in Kubuna , New Guinea ) was a Roman Catholic bishop and missionary. The missionary André Dupeyrat published his correspondence .
Life
Alain Marie Guynot de Boismenu was born in December 1870 in Saint-Malo in Brittany to François Guynot de Boismenu and his wife Augustine Marie (née Thomas). He received his training in Saint-Malo and Antwerp . In 1886 he joined the December 8, 1854 by Pere Jules Chevalier in Issoudun , Diocese of Bourges , founded Congregation of the Sacred Heart Missionaries ( Missionaries du Sacre Coeur d'Issoudun ; lat .: missionarii sacratissimi cordis ; short MSC or MSC ). On February 10, 1895 he was appointedOrdained priest . In 1897 Boismenu traveled to British New Guinea , where he reached Yule Island on January 25, 1898 .
In the following time Boismenu was active in the mission. On June 10, 1899 he was placed as coadjutor to the Vicar Apostolic of New Guinea Louis-André Navarre and was appointed titular bishop of Gabala . Boismenu himself only found out about it later, as he was on a missionary trip at the time, and so he was ordained bishop in Paris in 1900 . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Benedetto Lorenzelli , Apostolic Nuncio in France, on March 18, 1900. Co -consecrators were Bishop Alexandre-Louis-Victor-Aimé Le Roy CSSp, Superior General of the Spiritans , and Bishop Louis Couppé , Vicar Apostolic of New Pomerania .
In the next few years, and even after he himself became Vicar Apostolic with Navarre's resignation in January 1908, Boismenu focused his work on mission and religious life within the vicariate. Educational institutions for the population were also promoted.
On January 18, 1945, Pope Pius XII. his resignation and appointed him titular Archbishop of Claudiopolis in Honoriade . He spent the rest of his life in seclusion in Kubuna , a valley in New Guinea . Boismenu died there on November 5, 1953 and was buried there. His grave is now a destination for pilgrims.
Beatification process
In the process of beatification initiated for him, Pope Francis awarded him the heroic degree of virtue on April 16, 2014 .
