Eva-Maria Schumacher (born August 5, 1935 in Darmstadt , † December 13, 2009 in Munich ) was a German mayor ( SPD ).

Career

Schumacher completed her studies with a degree in administration and worked at the Munich employment office. In the mayoral election in Fürstenfeldbruck in spring 1990, she forced incumbent Max Steer (CSU) into the runoff election. Steer was initially eleven votes ahead. After a recount, Schumacher was declared the election winner. She was mayor from 1990 to 1996.

During her tenure, she used an often idiosyncratic style. Immediately after taking over the official duties, she had the construction of the glass city hall in Fürstenfeld stopped and initiated rescheduling. The Industha development company was founded to market the industrial area in the Hasenheide and succeeded in locating the European headquarters of National Semiconductor in Fürstenfeldbruck.

After her electoral defeat in 1996, she sold her house in Fürstenfeldbruck in 1999 and moved to Memmingen , and finally to Vinaròs in Spain in 2004 . She returned to Germany for medical treatment six weeks before her death. On December 13, 2009, at the age of 74, she died of a serious illness in the Pasinger Clinic.
