Eva Marek

Eva Marek (born June 6, 1968 in Graz ; born Eva Fuchs ) is an Austrian lawyer, public prosecutor and judge . Marek was Head of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office from 2014 to 2018 and has been Vice President of the Supreme Court since February 1, 2018 .

Career

Eva Marek was born on June 6, 1968 in Graz and attended the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Seebacher in her hometown. She then attended the University of Graz the Study of Law , where she graduated with the diploma of graduation for Master of law ( Mag. Iur. Graduated) in minimum time. After being accepted as a trainee judge, she first joined the Graz Public Prosecutor's Office in 1995, then worked for the General Procuratorate and the Graz Public Prosecutor's Office, and finally moved to the Ministry of Justice in 1999 . There she was initially a consultant for the legislative department, where she worked on the reform of criminal procedure , and subsequently head of the department for individual criminal matters. From 2003, she was promoted to Chief Public Prosecutor.

From January 1, 2004 to May 31, 2007 Eva Marek worked as an advocate general at the General Procuratorate at the Supreme Court. On June 1, 2007, she switched to the office of judge when she was appointed as the youngest court advisor to the Supreme Court. She then worked as a judge in a Senate for criminal matters at the Supreme Court. In 2014 there was another role change in the public prosecutor's office when Eva Marek was appointed head of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office on October 1, 2014. In this appointment, she prevailed against the head of the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor's Office , Ilse Maria Vrabl-Sanda , who was ranked first by the Personnel Commission , and thus became the head of the largest senior public prosecutor's office in Austria.

After Anton Spenling, one of the two OGH vice-presidents, had to retire from the judicial office at the end of January 2018 for reasons of age, Eva Marek was proposed by Justice Minister Josef Moser as his successor and appointed by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen . She therefore returned to the Supreme Court on February 1, 2018, to take up the office as Vice-President.
