Evangelical Church (Müllenbach)
The Protestant fortified church in Müllenbach , in its Westphalian - Saxon design, is an old style fortified church in which people from the village and the surrounding area sought refuge in times of need and war. The shape and style forth is a three-nave Romanic small basilika , wherein the floor plan of the temple shows the typical shape of a cross.
Predecessor of this church is a simple prayer and baptistery have been used in framework construction was built with wooden shingles covered. It could have been built between 800 and 900, but it could also have been built when the area of today's parish Marienheide was evangelized from around 1050 by monks of the St. Severinsstift in Cologne . After the surrounding settlement became denser and the number of believers increased, the old building was demolished and a new church in massive construction was erected at the same place . This is said to have been completed in its first construction phase by around 1097. A few decades later, the church tower was built on the west side . In the 12th century, narrow aisles were added , which are connected to the main nave by arcades .
It was also during this period that Müllenbach was raised to the status of an independent parish with its own pastor , churchyard and baptismal font . Another expansion took place in 1540 when a transept built in the Gothic style enlarged the church.
The interior of the church is, as with the other Bonten Kerken in Wiedenest and Lieberhausen , provided with colored wall paintings, which, however, do not come close to the Lieberhausen church in terms of quantity and splendor. Another special feature are the bells , among which the sugar loaf bell , known because of its special shape , dates from the 12th century and is considered the oldest bell in Oberbergischen . The octagonal baptismal font from Drachenfels - Trachyt made that one once laboriously transporting paper from the Seven Mountains herankarrte.
In the 1990s, the church was renovated with the help of generous donations .
