Evangelical Church in Bindsachsen
The Protestant church is a listed church building in Bindsachsen , a district of Kefenrod in the Wetterau district ( Hesse ).
History and architecture
The former fortification is located above the village. Around 1475 the building was expanded into a fortified church. The small, essentially Romanesque hall building was raised in 1694 when the galleries were installed and vaulted with a wooden barrel vault. The compact late Gothic choir tower with access on the upper floor is equipped with loopholes . It was built between 1470 and 1480. The bell chamber is slated, the tower is crowned with a baroque dome . In September 1796 the church was sacked by the Bernadotte Corps and used as a stable for horses. The benches were burned. The uniform furnishings of the church come mainly from the period from 1783 to 1785. The building fell into disrepair in 1812 and there was a risk of collapse. A comprehensive renovation was carried out. The next renovation took place in 1901. In a further thorough renovation in 1966, the entire facility was removed and reinstalled in the mid-1980s. The two bells date from 1759. They were cast by Johann Peter Bach from Windecken . The rich ornamentation is remarkable. The altar dates from the 13th century.
