Fortified church in Kirchbauna

The Protestant church is a listed church building in Kirchbauna , a district of Baunatal in the Kassel district ( Hesse ).

History and architecture

The village of Kilechbune was first mentioned in 1123. The first church was probably built as a fortified church before this time . A priest is documented for the first time in 1235. After the Reformation , the places Altenbauna, Rengershausen and Hertingshausen belonged to the Kirchbauna parish.

The hall building with a slated roof tower was built in 1773 according to a design by the master builder Möller. The high ring wall with loopholes , the corbels of the battlement and the two pointed arch portals are still preserved from the Gothic fortified cemetery .

The two bells of the old church stood in the churchyard since 1765. Bell founder Franz Schilling from Apolda cast two new bells from them from 1895 to 1896, which are still hanging in the tower today.

The church has been extensively renovated since mid-2010. For this purpose it was completely emptied except for the wrapped pulpit. In October 2010 the church was returned to its intended purpose. The nave is kept in white and old pink. The organ from 1712 was renewed in 1797 and rebuilt from Korbach in 1891. It was painted in light colors. In 2009, the church was equipped with a baptismal font by the Bohrmann & Roth sculpture from Grebenstein.
