album
After the debut EP Uncertain and the pre-released single Dreams , Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? the band's first album. The CD contains a rather calm, catchy mixture of pop and rock as well as influences from the folklore of their Irish homeland, with which The Cranberries distinguished themselves from the then dominant rock genres such as grunge and alternative rock . Singer Dolores O'Riordan's vocals were rather reserved and gentle, and Neil Hogan's guitar work was reminiscent of the style of Johnny Marr from The Smiths . The Cranberries stayed true to this mixture on the following records. "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" Was produced by Stephen Street , the lyrics were written by Dolores O'Riordan and Noel Hogan. The album sold worldwide more than 7.6 million times, reaching the UK No. 1 on the album charts and in the United States ranked 18th Only the following album " No Need to Argue " was even more successful.
After the success of the second single " Linger ", " Dreams " was released again. It was also a hit and later covered several times by other artists. The Chinese singer Faye Wong covered the song twice: once in Cantonese for the album "Random Thoughts" and once in Mandarin for the album "Sky". The first cover was used by the director Wong Kar-Wai for the film " Chungking Express ". Also Dario G coverte the song beyond "was Dreams " in the soundtrack of the film " em You've Got used".
Andy Earl was responsible for the cover of the album. It shows the musicians sitting on and in front of a couch in front of a black background.
