Everything Is Awesome is a song from the movie The LEGO Movie . The song was released as a single on January 27, 2014 and reached the Tegan and Sara version with The Lonely Island chart positions in the United States and Great Britain.
History of origin
The song was written by Shawn Patterson , Joshua Bartholomew, Lisa Harriton and The Lonely Island for the soundtrack of the movie The LEGO Movie . There are two versions of the song. The pop version was recorded by Tegan and Sara together with the trio The Lonely Island . It was on January 27, 2014 Download - Single released by Watertower Music. This version was produced by Mark Mothersbaugh and used in the credits of the film. A music video was also produced for this version, in which Tegan and Sara and Lonely Island are shown as Lego figures. There are also stop-motion animations , as can be seen in many Lego amateur productions, as well as images from the film. The storyboard for the music video allegedly came from a six-year-old boy named Markus Jolly.
Another version was recorded by the two songwriters Joshua Bartholomew and Lisa Harriton under the name Jo Li . It was used in a scene of the film as well as in the official trailer , the TV spots, in the video game and in the making-of .
Both versions can be found on The Lego Movie Original Motion Picture Soundtrack , the film's official soundtrack album. Greenpeace used Jo Li's version for the spot LEGO: Everything is NOT awesome. The spot was part of a Greenpeace campaign aimed at persuading the toy manufacturer Lego to stop cooperating with the Shell oil company . The London agency Don't Panic shot a video with Lego bricks showing an oil-contaminated Arctic .
The song was at the Oscar ceremony in 2015 as Best Song nomination.
Music genre
Everything Is Awesome is a fast paced pop song. Musically it is synth-pop , heavily influenced by Mark Mothersbaugh, producer of the song and previously active in the experimental pop band Devo . The song is deliberately kept simple and childish. It should make you optimistic. During the film the basic mood changes, so that the song gets a rather ironic touch at the end, during the credits.
Chart placements
The single achieved placements in the UK Top 40 and the Billboard Hot 100 . In the United States, the single was awarded a gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for 500,000 units sold .
