Exposures - In Retrospect and Denial is a music album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquility . It was released via Century Media in 2004 .

Emergence

With this compilation the band wanted to celebrate their 15th birthday and to thank the fans for their support. According to guitarist Niklas Sundin , the musicians were regularly approached by the fans to publish the old demo recordings on CD. The band had decided to add the Japan bonus tracks and unreleased songs. Exposures - In Retrospect and Denial was released as a double CD for the price of one CD. Sundin found the old DAT tapes in his parents' house.

The first CD is a compilation of rare and partly unreleased songs. The first two tracks were created while recording the album Damage Done . This is followed by two songs that were created during the recording of the album Haven . Songs six and seven were recorded for the album Projector . The tracks eight and nine or ten to twelve were previously published on the EP A Moonclad Reflection and the demo A Trail of Life Decayed .

The second CD is the soundtrack of the DVD released in 2003 under the title Live Damage . A concert on October 7, 2002 in the Polish city of Krakow was recorded . The second CD was produced by Fredrik Nordström and mastered by Göran Finnberg . The album cover was created by Niklas Sundin.

reception

According to Tobias Blum from the German magazine Rock Hard , the band “did a great job digging in the archives […]” and “unearthed a lot of interesting material”. On the live CD he highlighted the “absolutely great setlist”. Reviewer "Metalgreg" from the online magazine Metal.de asked himself in his review what criteria the band uses to select the songs for their albums. As an example he cited the song Exposure , which eclipsed the entire "mostly lame" album Projector .
