Projector is the fourth album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquility . The album was released on August 10, 1999 via Century Media .

Emergence

The album was recorded in September 1998 in the Fredman studio in Gothenburg . The album was produced by Frederik Nordström. The mastering was done by Göran Finnberg in "The Mastering Room". Mikael Stanne wrote all the lyrics, the music was written by the whole band.

For the first time since the debut album Skydancer , Mikael Stanne works with clear vocals. In the past he was repeatedly urged by his bandmates. Due to the harder alignment of the two previous albums, it didn't happen that Stanne could take over the clear vocals. Johanna Andersson sings the song UnDo Control . Musically, the band began with sound experiments. So there was more work with keyboards , more variable vocals and new types of melody.

The long time span between the recordings and the release is explained by the change of record company. Originally the album was supposed to be released by Osmose Productions , but due to the new direction, the plan was withdrawn. The band bought back the rights and hired their managers to sound out the market. Eventually the band signed with Century Media.

background

UnDo Control is about human conflicts. People who on the one hand strive for security and then feel the urge to live completely uncontrolled and beyond any norm. Another theme of the album are fears of internal and spiritual development.
