Haven is the fifth album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquility . The album was released on July 25, 2000 via Century Media .
Emergence
Musically, the line of the previous album Projector is continued. Keyboard player Martin Brändström has since become a permanent member of the band. At first the songs were about six minutes long. The band kept making changes and recording new demos. Originally, Stanne often worked with clear vocals. The band noticed that this made the songs sound too relaxed or depressive.
The album was recorded between March and April 2000 in the Fredman studio in Gothenburg . The album was produced by the band and Frederik Nordström. Nordström did the mixing. The mastering was done by Göran Finnberg in "The Mastering Room". The artwork was designed by Niklas Sundin .
background
According to singer Mikael Stanne, the album title Haven ( English for "refuge") refers to his apartment and the rehearsal room. He feels safe and secure in his apartment and can work on his texts in peace. In the rehearsal room, the band can concentrate on the music undisturbed. Therefore the booklet contains pictures from the band's refuge.
The lyrics are largely about Stanne's personal shortcomings. He expresses this in a very encrypted way because he doesn't want to reveal too much of his personality.
Versions
The album was released on CD and LP. The CD version contains the eleven tracks as well as the video clip for “UnDo Control” (from the previous album Projector ). The Japanese CD version contains the song "Cornered" as a bonus track.
