Extreme Job (Original title: Geukan Jigeop ) is an action comedy by South Korean director Lee Byeong-heon from 2019. With over 16.2 million viewers, it is the second most-viewed film in South Korean cinema history.

Department 2 of the drug investigation only catches small fish and causes a pile-up in an investigation. Department head Ko receives a tip from a colleague to focus on Lee Mu-bae and Ted Chang, who will soon have to take action again. His team can track down Mu-bae across from a Chimaek restaurant (fried chicken with beer). Lee Mu-bae has his main meeting place there. They learn from the owner of the restaurant that he will close the restaurant because he has no customers, only the types of people across the street. After careful consideration, department head Ko decides to take over the restaurant in order to keep an eye on the alleged drug traffickers.

However, there are more guests than planned. At first they always get chicken from another restaurant. But as more and more guests come, they will soon be making their own chicken to maintain the camouflage. Commissioner Ma can boast here. He uses an old family recipe from his mother and soon word gets around about the restaurant's delicious chicken. It is now constantly full and the police barely have any more time for observation, as Young-ho realizes with frustration. The restaurant should even be on TV. But the policemen shake it off so as not to be recognized. But the reporter is not satisfied with it. He watches the restaurant and realizes that they initially sold another restaurant's chicken. When the report was broadcast on television, the police officers were immediately recognized by the line manager. You are temporarily suspended because the takeover of the restaurant was not discussed. They also learn that Lee Mu-bae has moved on and they didn't even notice.

During their time off, they want to continue running the restaurant in order to earn money. But then a businessman comes to them who wants to set up a franchise . The police skeptically agree. The businessman, however, was one of Lee Mu-bae's men. After there are television reports about the unfriendly employees of the franchise restaurant and the bad chicken, the police officers are investigating as franchise managers and want to get the other restaurants on track. Instead, they find out that the restaurants are only intended as a cover for drug couriers. They expose Lee Mu-bae as the mastermind behind the Syndicate.

While investigating a restaurant, Inspector Ma is also exposed, beaten up and taken to Lee Mu-bae. They now know that the police are after them. But he has a plan with which he wants to attach everything to Ted Chang. Commissioner Jang also had to Mas smartphone a partner - App installed by the other four police officers can make it easy to locate. But Ma is an excellent fighter and manages to break free and pursue Lee to a container port. He sends a message to his colleagues and turns on a police siren on his cell phone. All are excellent, trained fighters and can prevail in combat despite being numerically inferior and arrest the criminals.

Extreme Job opened in South Korean cinemas on January 23, 2019 and reached over 16.2 million viewers. James Marsh of the South China Morning Post gives the film 4 out of 5 points. It is an entertaining film that reminds of Woody Allen's narrow-gauge thugs. Michael Rechtsshaffen of the Los Angeles Times compares the film to Police Academy . The film is amusing, but the plot doesn't give much here. Norman Wilner from Now rates the film very positively and describes it as nimble and charming. The film works on all levels, only the title is too generic.

Remake

An American remake was announced just months after the film was released . Kevin Hart , who will also be involved in the production with his studio HartBeat Productions, will play the leading role . It is a joint project between the South Korean company CJ Entertainment and Universal Pictures . The script adaptation will be written by Tracy Oliver .
