Foerster Media is a book publisher, magazine publisher and video producer from Offenbach am Main producing for gay men. The content and subject of the productions is homosexual eroticism for men.

history

Foerster Media, formerly Foerster-Verlag, formerly Fotokunst-Verlag (FKV), was founded in 1977 by Kurt-Joachim Förster (* 1952) in Frankfurt am Main as a book publisher. The company's headquarters are in Offenbach today. From the pure book publisher, the first gay book and magazine publisher in Germany developed in the early 1980s, which was expanded to include gay video and gay DVD in the mid-1990s .

Magazines

The most important magazine title was ADAM , which was published by the publisher from late 1984 to 2011 . Along with Du & Ich (October 1969) from Jackwerth Verlag , ADAM (May 1976) was the oldest gay title still on the German magazine market. The target group are gays "to whom one doesn't have to explain homosexuality month after month". Until the mid-1990s, Foerster Media produced the now discontinued magazines Adonis and DON , which were later merged as DON & ADONIS . A number of pornographic magazines are also published ( Homoh XXL , Boy oh Boy , Kinky Twinks ).

Books

The publisher has so far published around 50 books with homoerotic content. The first books included The Secret Sexus - homosexual fiction in Germany 1920–1970 (1979), The suppressed Sexus - historical texts on homosexuality (1977), and Sexual Research and Education in the Weimar Republic (1985). Kurt J. Foerster later published academic books on pedophilia. Outstanding authors here were Frits Bernard and Joachim S. Hohmann .

These books were freely available for sale in the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, but were indexed from the late 1990s . The book Leben, Lieben, Legenden (1989) by Hermann J. Huber , in which prominent homosexuals were portrayed in German-speaking countries for the first time, caused a sensation thanks to the Bild headlines . The trigger of the scandal was the listing of pop singer Rex Gildo . The Gay Video Guide book series (from 1999) is one of the most important publications and pioneers on this topic in German-speaking countries.

Another controversial book was Pedophilia Today , a compilation published in 1980 which reflects the positions of the pedophile movement and which was added to Part A of the list of media harmful to minors in 2004.

Video, DVD

The publishing house was one of the first German producers to not only import pornographic gay films from America, Scandinavia and the Netherlands, but also to produce and distribute them itself. At the same time, successful international productions such as the US labels Titan Media and Raging Stallion were supported today .

Studies

  • 1. ADAM Study ( What Gays Really Want , October 2007) The gay magazine ADAM examined attitudes towards partnership and sex in different age groups among gays on the contact portal homo.net . It was shown that the relationship orientation when searching for an online partner decreased with increasing age.
  • 2. ADAM study ( Adam is looking for Adonis - or Hercules?, January 2008) The magazine examined the partner preference of gay contact portal participants on homo.net depending on their own body image. The result is that almost all gays prefer their own body type.
  • 3. ADAM study ( dream man wanted: The ordinary homosexual , ADAM No. 246 Foerster Media March 2008) Here, the lifestyle groups among the homo.net contact forum participants were examined through a socio-scientific analysis of the leisure interests mentioned.
