Fear god Moritz Albert Voigt

Fear god Moritz Albert Voigt (born March 28, 1829 in Neukirchen ; † May 24, 1895 in Chemnitz ) was a German entrepreneur . He is considered a pioneer of embroidery machine construction in Chemnitz.

Life

Fear god Moritz Albert Voigt was born in Neukirchen near Nossen as the son of the royal Saxon road money collector. After attending school, he completed an apprenticeship, where he traveled to Jena , where he stayed for about 18 months, as he had participated in the 1848 uprising in Dresden . He then went to St. Gallen , Switzerland , where he first got to know a modern embroidery machine. He took the suggestion to become an engineer from Switzerland, where he worked in a machine factory. But in the end he gave in to his father's wish to work as a machine fitter in Dresden. It was not until his father's death that Fürchtegott Moritz Albert Voigt embarked on an engineering career in Chemnitz and enrolled as a mechanical engineering assistant at the Chemnitz mechanical building trade and foreman school. A long sick bed caused by a hemorrhage made him leave the master school early.

In 1857 Voigt traveled back to St. Gallen to get two of the new stitch machines from there. But initially there was no interest in selling these machines in Switzerland. Only after tough negotiations was Voigt able to acquire two machines and have them shipped to Plauen by rail . There they were installed in the Schnorr & Steinhäuser company. They quickly replaced traditional hand embroidery and the industrial method of embroidery. Voigt now began to deal with the replication of the embroidery machines from Switzerland and their further development, which he also succeeded in doing. In 1860 he received his first patent under the name Improvements to Swiss Embroidery Machines . This patent was followed by 18 more by 1870.

In 1872 his factory was converted into Sächsische Stickmaschinen Aktiengesellschaft, vorm. A. Voigt (later Maschinenfabrik Kappel AG ). Voigt headed the AG until 1888. After that he was a city councilor from 1890 to 1894. He died in 1895 and was buried in the Nicolaifriedhof in Chemnitz.
