Ela Angerer (born October 20, 1964 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer and photographer.

Life

Ela Angerer was born in Vienna in 1964 and later lived with her parents in Vorarlberg . Shortly before graduating from high school, she dropped out of school. After a long stay in Paris , she went to Vienna in 1983. For years she worked as a journalist for Austrian daily newspapers and magazines, including Kurier , Der Standard , Format , Festspiele Magazin and News . For two years she wrote a weekly column on fashion and trends for News under the title questions of style.

Ela Angerer was married to the journalist Lorenz Gallmetzer . She has a grown son from a previous relationship.

Career as a writer

Ela Angerer has been the editor of the book series Moderne Nerven , published by Czernin Verlag , since 2010 . From the texts of the third volume, Porno , she wrote the play of the same name, which was premiered under her direction in autumn 2011 at the Rabenhof Theater in Vienna (actors: Philipp Hochmair , Robert Palfrader , Manuel Rubey and Jaschka Lämmert ). The media response that the play evoked in Austria was commented on by the director of the Rabenhof Theater, Thomas Gratzer, in relation to the news magazine profil with the statement: “An original underground pimperl event was brought up by the media for a Handke premiere in the Burgtheater. Okay, too. ”Angerer had this statement projected onto the stage during the performance, as well as a comment from her mother about her appearance and personal quotes from the actors.

In 2014 Angerer published her first novel Until I Was 21 at Deuticke Verlag . Although Angerer's book was ascribed "autobiographical traits" in the blurb, the author explained in later interviews that the text should not be read as a transcript of her own story. It was her aim to sound out the attitude towards life of a bourgeois society in Austria from the 1960s to the 1980s that was oriented towards consumption and outward appearance.

Angerer's debut novel was received positively by the features section : The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung rated the novel as a “good book” in the category The most important debuts . The Neue Zürcher Zeitung praised Angerer "feat straighten the child's views, without betraying him." The Salzburger Nachrichten attested to the author: "With this novel she has secured her place in the Austrian literature as singular."

In autumn 2016 her novel Und die Nacht bragt mit Kometen was published by Aufbau-Verlag .
