life and work

In 2006 Lukas Pusch realized the Vienna Voodoo Performance in Mathare , one of the largest slums in East Africa . He marched through the slum in Nairobi in a white tuxedo. From the documentation of the performance, the follow-up project Slum-TV developed, which he realized in 2007 with his artist friends Sam Hopkins and Alexander Nikolic.

In 2008 Lukas Pusch and his Russian artist colleague Konstantin Skotnikov founded the White Cube Gallery Novosibirsk , the first and then only center for contemporary art in Siberia , in the form of a sheet metal garage. The gallery was an exhibition space and a readymade sculpture in one. A year later they mounted the gallery on the platform of a ZIL-130 truck and organized traveling exhibitions in the Russian-Mongolian border area. On the way back, the artists with their mobile gallery were recognized as the best work of the art biennial in Krasnoyarsk . In 2010 the gallery was robbed by Siberian police officers and was considered lost for some time. In 2010, the Siberian Center of Contemporary Art, the first state center for contemporary art, was opened and the White Cube Gallery Novosibirsk was set up in front of the entrance to the new museum. In 2012 Lukas Pusch was invited by Daniel Hug to present his White Cube Gallery in front of the main entrance of ART Cologne .

The 2010 Christmas edition of the Austrian daily Die Presse , designed by Lukas Pusch with traditional woodcuts , with motifs such as “Burkamadonna with Jesuskind” or “Allah is great and St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna” led to heated discussions and numerous subscription cancellations from angry readership. Nevertheless, the 2011 Christmas edition received a European Newspaper Award .

Together with the Austrian artist TOMAK , Pusch publishes the art magazine Der Antist - the magazine of the Viennese avant-garde .

Lukas Pusch is a son of the politician Hans Pusch , he lives and works in Vienna.
