Hans Pusch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Pusch (* 1943 in Judenburg , Styria ) is an Austrian media expert and political advisor. He became known in Austria in the 1980s as the head of cabinet of the then Austrian Chancellor Fred Sinowatz ( SPÖ ).

Life

Pusch grew up as the son of a principal school principal in Bad Aussee . There he attended the private middle school in Bad Aussee . He first took up the teaching profession himself and completed a degree in philosophy, which he completed with a doctorate.

While working at an agricultural school in the Ennstal, Pusch worked for the ÖVP towards the end of the 1960s , but decided in the early 1970s to get involved with the SPÖ. SPÖ media expert Heinz Brantl recommended him to the then Minister of Education Fred Sinowatz in 1973.

As ministerial secretary, Pusch Sinowatz and himself gained more attention in the Austrian media through PR campaigns - such as sporting activities. In 1980 and 1981 Pusch stayed in Tehran as a cultural attaché and then returned to his secretary position at Sinowatz.

When Sinowatz replaced Bruno Kreisky as head of government in May 1983 , Pusch became the new Chancellor's cabinet. His initially positive reputation was damaged internally by the discovery of his previous membership in the ÖVP.

Pusch met a lot of criticism during the Waldheim affair . In particular, representatives of the ÖVP such as Kurt Bergmann , but also former Chancellor Kreisky, accused him of being behind the SPÖ election campaign of 1986 against Kurt Waldheim , the then candidate of the ÖVP for president . In 1985, Pusch requested an act from the Ministry of Defense on Waldheim's activities during the Second World War on behalf of the SPÖ and is said to have handed over incriminating material about Waldheim to the UPI journalist James M. Dorsey in the summer of 1985.

With the resignation of Sinowatz as Federal Chancellor after Waldheim's election victory, Pusch lost public influence. His testimony in the Noricum investigation committee still met with media interest .

Pusch worked for a time as a freelancer in the SPÖ-related Progress advertising, then for the Austrian film company Scheiderbauer. At the end of 1993, Helmut Thoma brought him to RTL .

The artist Lukas Pusch is his son.
