Melanie Kretschmann (* 1975 in Hamburg ) is a German theater actress and director . She has been a member of the Schauspiel Köln ensemble since the 2013/14 season.

Career

Kretschmann completed an apprenticeship at the Lassaàd-LeCoq theater school in Brussels between 1994 and 1996 and then studied until 1998 at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . She then had her first engagements at the barracks of the Deutsches Theater under Thomas Ostermeier and from 2000 to 2003 as a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater Basel . Furthermore, Kretschmann is a member of the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater . She also worked at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Wien , the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin. Melanie Kretschmann is married to the director Stefan Bachmann . The couple have three sons and one daughter. She is the cousin of Marek Harloff and Fabian Harloff .

In addition to her work as an actress at the Schauspiel Köln, she heads the CARLsGARTEN project , which is located in the Carlswerk in Cologne-Mülheim , right next to the so-called DEPOT of the Schauspiel Köln. Melanie Kretschmann has been a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts since 2015 .
