The village of Fürweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1319. At that time it belonged to the office of Sierck in the Duchy of Lorraine . A document dating from 1321 compares the widow of the knight Heinrich von Virnewilre (Fürweiler) with the knight Johann von Gerlevingen ( Gerlfangen ). From 1707, the barons von Zandt (zu Siersburg ) and von Haen (zu Oberesch ) ruled the village . In 1751 the Duchy of Lorraine was reorganized and the village came to the Amt Busendorf (Prévôté de Bouzonville ). After the French Revolution , the village belonged to the canton of Rehlingen in the Moselle department from 1789 to 1815 . In 1816 the region was the kingdom of Prussia assigned to the community Fürweiler became part of the circle Saarlouis in Trier .

Fürweiler was an independent municipality until the end of 1973. In the course of the territorial and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Fürweiler became a district of the municipality of Rehlingen on January 1, 1974, which was later renamed Rehlingen-Siersburg.

religion

From time immemorial until the French Revolution, Fürweiler was an annex to the Schwerdorf parish and was looked after by the Archdiocese of Trier. It was not until 1920/21 that the Fürweiler family built their own church (Maria Hilfe der Christisten), which today is a branch church of the parish of St. Konrad and St. Nikolaus in Hemmersdorf .

today

Fürweiler today has 423 inhabitants. There is an intense friendship with the neighboring village of Schwerdorf in Lorraine. The stone bridge over the Etzelbach, destroyed by American troops in 1944, was rebuilt in 1999 with the help of the governments of France and the Federal Republic of Germany and is now called the Bridge of Friendship .

Fürweiler also took part in the competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ” several times . This competition is sponsored by the Saarlouis district. The villagers should combine both the modern and the old substance of their place in a symbiosis.
