The FFH area Wälder an der Bondenau is a NATURA 2000 protected area in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in the Federal Republic of Germany. The area was proposed to the European Union as a site of Community importance (GGB) in September 2004, confirmed as such by the EU in November 2007 and made a special conservation area in January 2010 in accordance with Section 32 (2) to (4) BNatSchG in conjunction with Section 23 LNatSchG ( BEG) explained. The FFH area is located in the fishing natural area , which, according to the landscape profile of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, is one of the "landscapes of minor importance". It is located in the middle of the fishing landscape as part of the Schleswig region and the Schleswig-Holstein hill country south of the Bondenau river in the Niesgrau-Frörup tunnel valley, which is worth protecting from a geological point of view , see elevation profile. The area consists of three spatially separated forest areas northwest of Satrup , which existed more than 200 years ago and are entered as such on the map of the Danish cartographer Johann Heinrich Christian du Plat of the Duchy of Schleswig from 1805. The western area is the Obdrupholzkoppel (Danish Obdrup Skovkobbel ), the middle area is the Hasenholz ( Hareskov ) together with the Jeßlundholz ( Jeslundkobbel ) and the eastern area is the small wooden paddock together with the Norderholz and the Küsterwiese. The owners of the entire FFH area are the Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesforsten A.ö.R. In April 2011 the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas of Schleswig-Holstein published the management plan for the FFH area. At the entrances or in the area there is no indication whatsoever to the visitor that he is in an FFH area.

FFH conservation object

According to the 2010 management plan, 3 FFH habitat types have been defined as FFH conservation objects in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive:

The current standard data sheet (as of May 2017) also
lists 1.5 hectares of alluvial and spring forest (91E0) in an insufficient state of conservation. The FFH habitat and biotope types in the area have been recorded on a map

FFH conservation objectives

Of the identified FFH conservation objects, 3 FFH habitat types of particular importance were declared to be FFH conservation objectives:

  • 9110 Grove beech forests
  • 9130 Woodruff beech forests
  • 9160 Chickweed-oak-hornbeam forests

FFH analysis and assessment

The conservation status of the FFH conservation objectives was subjected to an analysis and evaluation. The result was mapped (as of 2006). Then there is a narrow strip of woodruff beech forest in a very good state of preservation (A) on the northern edge of the Opdrup Holzkoppel, while the majority of the forests are in a good state of preservation (B). In all three sub-areas there are areas with an inadequate state of conservation (C). The information in the current standard data sheet (as of May 2017) deviates from this. No habitat types with a very good conservation status (A) were reported there. In addition to the FFH habitat types, the interests of the legally protected biotopes in the FFH area must also be taken into account. These are mapped for all three sub-areas (as of 2011).

FFH catalog of measures

A catalog of FFH measures was drawn up based on the findings of the FFH analysis and assessment. For all forest areas of the Schleswig-Holstein state forests, separate principles of action apply in NATURA 2000 areas. The most important required conservation measure is the removal of drainage ditches and pipes to raise the groundwater level. The conversion of the habitat types (e.g. replacing coniferous with deciduous forest) is a constant task in all forests of the Schleswig-Holstein state forests and part of the principles of action, s. O.

FFH success control and monitoring of the measures

In all FFH areas in Schleswig-Holstein, a FFH success check and monitoring of the measures is carried out on a random basis. In the years 2007 to 2012, the first follow-up mapping was carried out according to biotope and FFH habitat types (LRT) and recorded as a text contribution and in 3 maps. These are the basis for the area
information in the current standard data sheet from May 2017. The state forests in the Opdrupholzkoppel have partially enclosed the area with the woodruff beech forest east of the forest path with a game protection fence in order to reduce game browsing on young beeches (as of July 2020 ).
