The ETR 1000 , also V300 Zefiro or Frecciarossa 1000 , sometimes also called ETR 400 after the vehicle numbers , is a series of Italian high-speed trains manufactured by a consortium consisting of AnsaldoBreda (later Hitachi Rail Italy ) and Bombardier Transportation . 50 trains were called off with the first order; the first train was presented to the public on March 26, 2013. The train is internally referred to by Trenitalia as ETR 400 02 .

AnsaldoBreda equipped twelve trains with ETCS Level 2 ( SRS 2.3.0d ). Half of the cost of 2.86 million euros was borne by the EU.

In response to the tender by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane for the delivery of 50 high-speed trains, Bombardier and AnsaldoBreda offered a two-hundred-meter-long train with eight cars. In contrast to the ETR 500 , the drive equipment is no longer concentrated in two powered end cars, but distributed over the entire length of the train. The train is based on the Bombardier Zefiro for China and the AnsaldoBreda V250 . It is designed for operation at 360 km / h and reached 393.8 km / h during test drives.

In order to optimize the train's aerodynamics and noise-insulated interior, corrugated bellows with molded-in vulcanized corrugations were installed between the eight cars . These include the pedestrian crossing, which is also enclosed in a corrugated bellows, as well as the couplings and cables between the car bodies, so that the box contour is continued over the entire circumference.

Trenitalia placed the order with Bombardier and Ansaldo in August 2010. The offer from the two companies was cheaper at 30.8 million euros per train than the offer from Alstom at 35 million euros. The order had a total volume of 1.5 billion euros, 652 million of which came from Bombardier's supply.

In August 2012 Trenitalia presented a 1: 1 model of the head shape of the train in Rimini , which was then shown at the Innotrans in Berlin . The train has active transverse suspension , but not a tilting system.

On March 26, 2013, the first of the five pre-series trains was presented to the public at the Ansaldobreda plant in Pistoia . The train was named after the Italian athlete and world record holder over 200 meters Pietro Mennea , who had died a few days earlier. After the presentation, the first train was transferred to Florence , where it was equipped with measuring instruments, before extensive test runs on the Velim railway test ring began. The other pre-series trains carried out test drives on the Italian route network, which were approved for speeds of up to 300 km / h in April 2015. For Expo 2015 , the first six were put into operation on June 14, 2015.

The technical tests for commercial operation at 350 km / h, which aims to reduce the travel time between Milan and Rome from 3 hours to 2 hours 20 minutes, were completed on December 17, 2017. During the test drives, the speed of 390.7 km / h was reached in the night from November 30th to December 1st. On the night of February 26, 2016, 393.8 km / h were reached. Operation at 350 km / h should start in spring 2018 at the latest. The third train in the series was to be made available to the Italian infrastructure operator RFI as a measuring train .

The order for a further 14 trains was announced on June 4, 2019.

Incidents

On February 6, 2020, the ETR 1000 set no.21, traveling at around 290 km / h, derailed at the train station in Livraga (Lodi) southeast of Milan (see railway accident at Livraga ). In the accident on the high-speed line Milan - Bologna , the two train drivers died and 31 people were injured.
