History and focus
Since its founding, the fair has developed into the largest and most important trade fair in rail transport technology and is therefore considered the leading fair for this industry. The fair mainly deals with track-bound vehicles for passenger and freight traffic as well as their assemblies and components. There are also various exhibitors for vehicle equipment.
Another focus is the infrastructure and track technology. There are now more and more exhibitors on tunneling technology . Furthermore, manufacturers of stationary equipment and passenger information systems can be found. The third focus is information technology and traffic management as well as all other related services.
The first InnoTrans was opened on October 15, 1996, 172 companies were represented. For the second InnoTrans in 1998, Messe Berlin was able to provide an 800-meter-long track harp on the exhibition grounds, and at the same time, Eurailspeed and another vehicle exhibition took place at Berlin-Grunewald train station . With InnoTrans 2006, separate exhibition areas were set up for the topics of Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Public Transport, Tunnel Construction and Interiors, as well as the Career Point as a contact point for young professionals.

At InnoTrans 2012, all exhibition halls and the outdoor area were completely occupied for the first time. 104 world premieres were presented and deals worth 1.8 billion euros were announced.
The tenth InnoTrans in 2014 took place from September 23 to 26. The public days on September 27 and 28 were attended by around 15,000 interested people. The new CityCube exhibition hall with 12,000 m² of additional exhibition space was used for the first time.
