The class name FUN means Formule UNe, in German unit class . The idea behind the FUN was to design a fast, inexpensive boat in which the individual ships can be compared very well due to the class regulations .

The crack comes from the yacht designers Joubert & Nivelt, the license rights are owned by the class association, which issues the license to one shipyard in each case. In contrast to other classes that were built by a shipyard and later discontinued, this guarantees the continued existence of the class regardless of the company policy of a shipyard. The FUN was built by Jeanneau until 1988 , currently the boats come from the Lillia shipyard, which has made some detail improvements and done a lot on the finish.

To date, a total of around 650 units have been built worldwide, a high percentage of which are in regular regatta use. There are around 40 units in Germany, around half of which are used in regattas.

With a total trailer weight of around 1,300 kg and the swivel keel, the FUN is an easy-to-transport, compact sports boat that can even be slipped . International regattas for FUNs take place at the Travemuende Week , the Bol d'Or on Lake Geneva or the Centomiglia on Lake Garda . The FUN is sailed with three or four people and is measured according to Yardstick (103), IMS and ORC .

The FUN was originally built for regattas on the seashore. This can be seen in the solid construction (full laminate, deck and cockpit area partly balsa sandwich) and in the high stability values (stability index according to IMS: 107.4. Positive stability up to 116 degrees heel , ballast content 45%). It is unsinkable and cannot capsize. The stable construction means that old boats are by no means disadvantaged, but regularly achieve victories and good placements.

The sails of the FUN ensure excellent handiness in strong winds, where the genoa is replaced by a self-tacking jib; the mainsail can be reefed.

With a good trim, the FUN starts surfing from four Beaufort onwards and then reaches speeds that are up to twice the nominal torso speed of just under 5.7 knots. The boat is good-natured in its behavior that it is also suitable for cruising and fun sailing with a small crew or one-handed .

The class is represented internationally with class associations in Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, Croatia, USA and Germany, FUNs have also been spotted in Thailand. The main focus of FUN in Germany is the Zwischenahner Meer .
