Fabio Novembre
Fabio Novembre (born October 21, 1966 in Lecce ) is an Italian designer and architect. He works for Casamania, Cappellini and Driade, among others.
Life
Fabio Novembre completed an architecture degree in Milan and moved to New York in 1993 , where he wanted to take a directing course at the university. After his interest turned to design, he moved to Hong Kong . There he realized his first project with the Anna Molinari Blumarine Store. In 1994 he returned to Milan and set up a studio there, where he designed additional shops for Anna Molinari, which were set up in London , Singapore and Taipei . After that, he initially designed other interior design objects, including hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and showrooms. From 2001 onwards, Fabio Novembre devoted himself more and more to the design of furniture. Among other things, he designed the Org table series , the And and Divina sofas and the Nemo armchair .
In 2009 he presented the Him & Her pair of chairs at the Milan Furniture Fair , which was controversial. In the front view, reminiscent of the Panton Chair , the chairs made of polyethylene show a three-dimensional kneeling male and female nude on the back, which ends with the back of the chair at about the level of the shoulder blades.
Naked bodies or body parts frequently appear in Novembre's oeuvre. For example, he decorated the Divina discotheque in Milan with numerous reproductions of famous female nudes from art history. L'Origine du Monde is emblazoned in front of the bar , and above it is a gigantic enlarged version of the painting of the same name by Gustave Courbet . The Anna Molinari Store in London has an entrance framed by similarly huge women's legs (this is also a quote, this time from 1960s pop art), and the Shu Café in Milan is adorned with oversized women's arms. The Divina leather sofa is formally reminiscent of furniture from the twenties, but has a plastic backrest in the shape of an unclothed woman, which is reminiscent of the poor copy of a Henry Moore sculpture.
In addition to the human body, Christian symbolism and especially the confrontation with the Catholic Church also play an important role in Novembre's works. As part of his Be your own messiah project , he had himself photographed as Jesus . This rebellion has its origins in November's childhood: he once said in an interview that he never wanted to accept that God had driven him out of Paradise .
