The department of the waterways and shipping administration for traffic engineering (FVT) was set up on March 1, 2000 as an organizational combination of the sea mark test field with other departments.
tasks
- Central specialist service of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) for transport technology and the federal shipping system.
- Research, development, testing, certification and support of suitable systems, facilities, devices and processes for the safety and facilitation of shipping traffic on federal waterways in inland and sea areas including the high seas.
- Supervising authority for the UBI ( VHF radiotelephone certificate for inland shipping radio ).
- Representation of the federal waterways and shipping administration in national and international bodies and organizations.
