The Basel connecting line is a railway line in the Swiss city of Basel and connects the Badischer Bahnhof on the right bank of the Rhine with the SBB station on the left bank. It lies entirely on Swiss territory .
Most German long-distance trains on the Rheintalbahn also run to Basel SBB and thus use the connecting train . Many regional express trains operated by Deutsche Bahn from or to Offenburg or Freiburg im Breisgau and S-Bahn trains operated by SBB GmbH (line S6 of the Basel S-Bahn ) from or to Zell im Wiesental continue on the connecting train to Basel SBB. Due to the international treaty regulation of these transports, the Swiss tariff system applies on the connecting railway, but the German Baden-Württemberg ticket is also recognized. The free transport for disabled applies also here, even in long-distance trains.
history
The railway line was determined by Article 4 of the international treaty of October 15, 1869, concerning the construction and operation of a Gotthard railway . The connecting railway was licensed by the Swiss Confederation on March 14, 1870 . On November 3, 1873, the railway with the main element, the single-lane Rhine bridge , whose pillars had already been built with a view to a possible widening to double-lane, opened. As a result of an agreement between the then Swiss Central Railway and the Baden State Railways , the connecting railway formed a joint venture between the two. The building capital was raised exclusively by Centralbahn, and as its legal successor, the Swiss Federal Railways are now the owners of the railway.
Since the rail reform, the infrastructure has been operated by SBB alone. SBB, DB and many other companies use this to access the network. The property limit is at 3.461 kilometer, at the north head of the Rhine bridge , at Grenzacherstrasse.
Between 2009 and 2012 a second bridge was built upstream next to the existing Rhine crossing, which was inaugurated on October 22, 2012. It is used by passenger trains in the direction of Basel SBB , while goods traffic to the Basel marshalling yard is handled over the old Rhine bridge, which can now be renovated. The previous branching in both directions south of the bridges has been omitted since the new bridge was used, as all the points there were subsequently removed. For this reason, passenger and freight traffic is currently already being separated at the Badischer Bahnhof before the traffic can run separately from there with the renovation of the Weil (Rhine) and Haltingen stations .
technology
The Basel connecting line, including the Basel Bad Bf , Basel SBB and Basel SBB RB stations, is equipped so that it can be used by German and Swiss locomotives without special technical equipment. The signals are equipped with ETCS (Level 1 LS) and German train protection. The route can be used in platform changing mode; In contrast to the usual practice in the SBB network, people usually drive to the right in order to avoid changing tracks in Badischer Bahnhof. The overhead line can be used with Swiss pantographs (maximum lateral deviation 200 mm), the clearance profile also allows wide pantographs. The separation point between the catenary systems is on the property line. The parking area of the Basel Bad Bf signal box extends up to and including the branching of the lines to Basel SBB and Basel marshalling yard.
