Falk F. Strascheg

Falk Friedl Strascheg (born March 20, 1940 in Graz ) is an Austrian entrepreneur and venture capitalist .

biography

Falk Strascheg dropped out of a physics degree. He moved to Germany in the 1960s. First he gained industrial experience in Augsburg at the cash register and computer manufacturer NCR . There Strascheg was head of the department for quality control and technology transfer between the American parent company and NCR Germany.

Entrepreneur

After leaving NCR, Strascheg founded Laser-Optronic in Munich in 1971. This established itself in the following years as a laser company with branches in Brussels, Milan and Paris. Ten years later he sold the company to the Californian laser manufacturer Coherent .

Venture capitalist

Strascheg's career as a venture capitalist began in 1984 when he invested in the company Hybrid Elektronik from Fürth. So he remained active as a private investor for a few years until he founded Technologieholding in 1987, a venture capital company in German-speaking countries. Through technology holding, he financed several innovative growth companies as a lead investor. In February 2000 Strascheg sold Technologieholding to 3i Group plc.

At the same time, Strascheg was President of the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA) in 1997/98. In that year he also founded Extorel Private Equity Advisers GmbH. He also sold this on to VCM Venture Capital Management GmbH in 2003. In 1996 Extorel GmbH was founded. Since then, the company has been responsible for managing and investing the Strascheg family's assets. The focus is on private equity .

In addition, Strascheg holds several membership and supervisory board mandates, including at Alphaform AG. He has also been Deputy Chairman there since 2006. He is also the chairman of the Kraillinger laser sintering specialist EOS Holding AG. Strascheg is also a member of the supervisory boards of the Norwegian polymer manufacturer Microbeads AS and PEH Wertpapier AG in Oberursel. In his vita there is a mandate at Brokat AG (until July 2001) and at the Munich-based specialist publisher GoingPublic Media (from August 1999 to May 2015).

Strascheg has also been active as a business angel since 2010 and supports young technology companies in this way. So he is u. a. Inter alia in the companies Altruja and Movingimage24.

science

Strascheg promotes business-related subjects at universities. On April 29, 2002, the “Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship” (SCE) was opened at the Munich University of Applied Sciences . Since then, this has been supported by the Falk F. Strascheg Foundation.

In 2007 the Strascheg Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SITE) was founded at EBS University in Wiesbaden and Oestrich-Winkel, which is supported by the Falk and Renate Strascheg Foundation in its practice-oriented research as well as in teaching and further education. In addition to the departments of entrepreneurship and innovation management, project management and controlling are also the focus of the funding measures. In addition to financial support, Falk Strascheg participates in university events as a jury member or guest speaker.

social commitment

The Renate and Falk Strascheg Foundation is also involved in social work, especially in the field of youth and elderly care. Another goal of the foundation is the preservation of monuments and the promotion of art and cultural values.

On the list of the 500 richest Germans , Strascheg is ranked 393 with an estimated fortune of around EUR 300 million .

Awards

In 2009 Strascheg received the medal “ Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum ” from the Ministry of Science in the Bavarian State Chancellery for his commitment to the Munich University of Applied Sciences and his scientific merits . On March 12, 2019, EBS Universität awarded him an honorary doctorate (Dr. hc).
