Falkenstein and Pechleite east of Lauenstein

The nature reserve Falkenstein and Pechleite east of Lauenstein lies in the area of the city of Ludwigsstadt in the district of Kronach in Upper Franconia .
The 66.61 ha area with the number NSG-00452.01, which was placed under nature protection in 1993 , extends north of the core city of Ludwigsstadt and northeast of the Lauenstein district . It is located directly on the B 85, which runs on the southern and eastern edge, and the Loquitz, which flows on the southern and eastern edge . The border with Thuringia runs along the northern edge of the area, and the Steinbach , the border river between Bavaria and Thuringia , flows to the east .
The protection is placed in order to preserve a scenic valley slope with richly structured rock formations and a large number of rare, sensitive and endangered plant and animal species.
