Marketplace in the reconstructed Galician town

history

The place was first mentioned in 1392 as Falkowicz . The possessive name (originally patronymic with the suffix - (ow) ice) is derived from the personal name Falek or Falik (a short form of Falisław or Chwalisław / Chwalimir). The first known Schulz until 1396 was a certain Maciej Cruze or Cricze , at the same time a lay judge of the court of German law in Nowy Sącz.

Politically and administratively, the village belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Sącz District.

Josephine Colony in the Open Air Museum

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Falkowa became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Falkowa came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1942 to 1969, Falkowa was gradually incorporated as a district of Nowy Sącz.
