Catch Lizhi
Fāng Lìzhī (方 励 之; * February 12, 1936 ; † April 6, 2012 in Tucson , Arizona , USA ) was a Chinese scientist and professor of astrophysics at the Chinese University of Science and Technology in Hefei , Anhui Province .
Life
Fang began studying physics at Peking University at the age of 16 . Here he met his future wife.
He was one of the ideas behind the democracy movement. In 1987 he was expelled from the Chinese Communist Party . After the crackdown on student protests in 1989 and the massacre on Tian'anmen Square (Tiananmen Square) , his teaching license was revoked. After the riots, he and his wife fled to the US embassy, where they stayed for 13 months and eventually went into exile in the United States . There, Fang was again academically active and last taught at the University of Arizona .
