The Farnberg near Oer-Erkenschwick in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Recklinghausen is 136.4 m above sea level. NHN after the Stimberg ( 156.9 m ) and Rennberg (approx. 138 m ) the third highest elevation of the Haard , a hilly landscape on the northern edge of the Ruhr area .

The Farnberg lies in the southern part of the wooded Haard and in the east of the Hohe Mark-Westmünsterland Nature Park . It is located 2.6 km (as the crow flies ) north of the center of Oer , a district of Oer-Erkenschwick , to whose urban area the elevation belongs, and 6.6 km west-north-west of the Datteln center. The south-southeast neighbor is the Stimberg, 850 m away (as the crow flies) .
Mountain height
The Farnberg is 136.4 m high. However, its height is sometimes given as only around 126 or 127 m , which refers to the height of 126.5 m of a forest path located 225 m northwest of the summit , which can be seen from topographic maps .

The Farnberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Westphalian Bight (No. 54) and in the main unit Westmünsterland (544) to the subunit Haard (544.7).

Farnberg fire tower
About 105 m west of the Farnberg summit , right next to a 134.4 m high point, is the 38 m high Farnberg fire watch tower (base height 135 m ), which is made of hot-dip galvanized steel and serves as a fire watch tower and lookout tower . From its observation platform, which can be reached via 179 steps and is located at 36 m tower height, at around 171 m above sea level. NHN the view falls over the Haard and with good visibility to the Ruhr area and the Münsterland .
Traffic and walking
The state road 889 ( Ahsener Strasse ) leads from Oer-Erkenschwick to Ahsen about 1.5 km southeast of Farnberg . You can hike the elevation on forest paths and paths from a parking lot located on this street and from those at Stimbergpark 1.6 km (as the crow flies) south of the elevation .
