Feldstetten is a district of Laichingen in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg .

The Feldstetten district is located on federal highway 28 on the Swabian Alb between Bad Urach and Blaubeuren . This west-east connection was the basis for the development of the place in the past. The establishment of the post office in 1810 in today's Hotel / Gasthof Post brought an economic upswing for the numerous innkeepers who had settled due to the favorable road location.

Feldstetten was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. In the earlier centuries the economic strength of the village was based mainly on agriculture, house weaving and the numerous inns.

Feldstetten belonged to the Münsingen Oberamt from 1808 . In 1876 it was lucky in that it was connected to the Alb water supply immediately before a major fire . With a small part of the old district Münsingen occurred in the district reform on 1 January 1973 for Alb-Donau-Kreis. In the course of the community reform , the place finally lost its independence and became part of Laichingen on January 1, 1975 .

religion

In terms of church, Feldstetten was originally a branch of Laichingen with a Gothic church dedicated to St. Gallus. In 1453 a separate parish was founded, the patronage remained with the Blaubeuren monastery . The Reformation was introduced in Württemberg in 1534, also in Feldstetten. After the Thirty Years' War, however, the place was briefly supplied from Laichingen and only in 1653 did it have its own parish again. From autumn 2020, however, as part of the job-saving “parish plan”, the Feldstetten pastor's office will cease to exist, and today's Protestant parish in the Bad Urach-Münsingen church district of the Evangelical Regional Church in Württemberg will then be looked after from Laichingen. The Catholic fellow citizens are also oriented towards Laichingen.

Industry and commerce

Feldstetten is known for its shoe production. There are currently three inns in Feldstetten, two of which also have a hotel .

Feldstetten was a military base from 1915. After a military camp set up by the Royal Württemberg War Ministry , the Wehrmacht took over the base in 1933 to train soldiers. From the beginning of the 1970s until December 21, 2007, there was a main equipment depot of the Bundeswehr in Feldstetten . Today this area is used by a motor vehicle supplier.

Buildings and sights

The Protestant St. Gallus Church was built in 1737, while the Gothic choir of the previous building was also used. Wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries can be seen in it. They were only discovered in 1895 and restored in 1898. The artist Walter Kohler designed a choir window with biblical themes in 1936 (healing of the blind, rich youth, raising of Lazarus). In 1999 a color window by the artist Ursula Nollau from (then) Zwiefalten followed.
