Felix Riemkasten (born January 8, 1894 in Potsdam , Brandenburg ; † October 6, 1969 in Friedenweiler , Baden-Wuerttemberg ) was a German writer , esotericist , new spirit and yoga teacher .

Life

Riemkasten was born on January 8, 1894 in Potsdam . The craftsman's son studied economics and philosophy at the Berlin University . From 1919 to 1931 he was a civil servant for the Free State of Braunschweig and had to resign as a civil servant in connection with the measures taken by Germany's first state government with the participation of the NSDAP. From 1932 he worked as a freelance writer in Berlin-Zehlendorf . Because of the aerial warfare over Berlin and the surveillance by the Gestapo , Riemkasten went to Saxony. He lived on a farm near Bad Säckingen until the end of the war. later he moved to Reutlingen, from where he opened the first German hatha yoga school in Stuttgart on September 10, 1953 . He finally moved these to Friedenweiler and ran them until his death in 1969.

Riemkasten published books from 1920, where he also followed in the footsteps of Christian Morgenstern's literary figure "Palmström". With his books "Der Bonze" (with reference to Otto Grotewohl ), "Comrades" and "Is the Left Really Still the Right?", Published from 1930 onwards , he dealt with parliamentary democracy, without the NSDAP expressly as an alternative to the democratic parties to call. In the democratic socialism represented mainly by the SPD , however, he saw an ideology that only calm down ordinary workers and employees. Riemkasten is characterized by Mohler as a “German socialist” and a representative of the conservative revolution . The Brunnen-Verlag, in which his books have now appeared, also represented other authors of the conservative revolution and was headed by the staunch National Socialist Willi Bischoff during this time . The Munzinger archive, however, writes "The strongly socially minded author got along no better with the National Socialists".

After 1933, however, Riemkasten mainly wrote books that today would be characterized as advice (skiing, photography), as well as apolitical books for young people and humorous feature articles . He published in the magazine Die Jugend and between 1936 and 1943 in Simplicissimus . His works, published after 1945, dealt exclusively with yoga , meditation , breathing techniques and esotericism .
