Felix Schuchard
Felix Schuchard (born April 26, 1865 on the Trenkelhof near Eisenach , † April 19, 1944 in Eisenach) was a German painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
His father owned the old brewery on Eisenacher Petersberg Schuchard & Erbslöh together with the Grand Ducal Saxon Commerce Councilor Albert Erbslöh . After Felix Schuchard had passed the Abitur at the Eisenacher Realgymnasium , he studied art and painting in Düsseldorf and Munich before going to Maderno , where he bought a house on the southwestern shore of Lake Garda . Many landscapes from the northern Italian region date from this time. After the First World War , South Tyrol came to Italy, and Schuchard returned to Eisenach in 1920. With the inflation that followed, he had also lost most of his fortune.
Until his death he lived as a freelance artist and illustrator for the Eisenacher Tagespost in the Wartburg city . He left behind hundreds of pictures, especially drawings and oil paintings, which show prewar Eisenach and its surroundings in an impressive and very detailed manner. Parts of his works are in the Thuringian Museum and in the Eisenach City Archives, which acquired an extensive collection of images from the Eisenach publisher Felix Kühner in 1952 .
Felix Schuchard spent his old age, last marked by illness, in an old people's home in Eisenach. He died childless and was quietly buried in the main cemetery in Eisenach, only a few steps away from the Fritz Reuter grave . The grave has since been closed.
The state parliament member Johannes Schuchard was his grandfather. His cousin Adeline Schuchard married the painter Adolf Erbslöh in 1907 at Calenberg Castle, which her father had acquired and expanded . Another cousin, Johanna Schuchard, was the wife of the Eisenach brewery founder and councilor Albert Erbslöh .
