Felix von Thümen

origin

His parents were Albert Ferdinand von Thümen (* October 22, 1802, † September 9, 1841) in Pesterwitz and of Freiin Wilhelmine Friederike von L'Estocq († April 19, 1889).

Life

Felix von Thümen went to grammar school in Dresden, was then a first lieutenant in the Prussian military, which he had to leave again due to injuries after falling from his horse, and then managed his estate. After he had to give up that too, he turned to botany, inspired by Ludwig Reichenbach . He dealt with fungi and plant pathology (fungal attack on fruit trees and vines) and in 1876 became an adjunct at the chemical-physiological research station in Klosterneuburg , which he remained until his death. He was free to choose his place of residence and lived alternately in Vienna , Gorizia and Berlin . He died during a cure in the Bohemian town of Bad Teplitz because of a heart disease.

As a mycologist, he worked on many collections from all over the world due to his good knowledge of forms. He also published about it in foreign journals. He was also known for his books on fungi on crops, especially vines and fruit trees, where he also gave practical advice on how to combat fungal diseases. A work on plants in homeopathy remained unfinished.
