Ferdinand Barnstein

Ferdinand Barnstein (born July 31, 1861 in Gebesee ; † July 18, 1947 there ) was a German physiological chemist .

Life

Barnstein passed his Abitur at the Royal High School in Erfurt at Easter 1882 . He studied chemistry and received his doctorate in 1887 at the United Friedrichs University of Halle-Wittenberg with the thesis isobutenyltricarboxylic acid and its decomposition product, the a-dimethylsuccinic acid . From January 1892 he worked at the Saxon Agricultural Research Station in Möckern with Gustav Kühn . Here he later worked as the head of the feed department and carried the title of professor. He developed a method for determining the pure protein content that is still used today.
