Ferdinand Fellner came from an old Viennese family. He studied from 1834 to 1837 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . Then he went on a study trip to Italy. Fellner became one of the leading architects of historicism and the Ringstrasse era . His son Ferdinand Fellner the Younger supported him in the studio from 1866 onwards, as he was no longer able to perform well because of a serious heart disease, and he finally followed him. Ferdinand Fellner was also active politically. He worked on the city regulation plan and dealt with a new building code. After his death he was buried in the Währinger Allgemeine Friedhof , but then reburied in his son's crypt in the Grinzing cemetery (entrance crypt row 21, crypt 46).
