Ferdinand Joseph Fonseca

Ferdinand Joseph Fonseca (born December 2, 1925 in Bombay , † October 2, 2015 in Bandra ) was an Indian Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Bombay .

Life

Ferdinand Joseph Fonseca attended St. Joseph's High School in Umerkhadi and from 1942 studied for a Bachelor of Arts at St. Xavier's College in Bombay. In 1946 he graduated with honors and entered the Parel seminary. After studying theology and philosophy, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Bombay on December 5, 1954 . He then completed a degree in education and worked as an assistant pastor at the parishes of St Francis Xavier (Vile Parle), Sacred Heart (Santa Cruz), Our Lady of Victories (Mahim) and Our Lady of Glory (Byculla). He was also involved in numerous honorary positions. After studying spirituality at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and the Loyola University Chicago , he became rector of St. Pius X College in Goregaon in 1972.

On March 28, 1980, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Bombay and titular bishop of Aquae in Mauretania . The Archbishop of Bombay, Simon Ignatius Pimenta , donated him episcopal ordination on June 29 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Gilbert Blaize Rego , Bishop of Simla and Chandigarh , and Dominic Joseph Abreo , Bishop of Aurangabad .

On December 2, 2000, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
