Ferdinand Kopf (born May 30, 1857 in Kurzell bei Lahr ; † May 24, 1943 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German lawyer and politician of the Center Party .

Life and work

Ferdinand Kopf, the oldest of the five children of Benedikt Kopf and Katharina Wacker, was originally supposed to become a clergyman. He then studied but in Freiburg and Heidelberg law . In 1884 he finished his studies and settled as a lawyer in Freiburg. There he became legal officer of the Archbishop's Ordinariate . Here he came into close contact with the various aspects of the Kulturkampf . He had three daughters and a son, Hermann Kopf . He was also the founder of the Freiburger Tagespost . This emerged from the Pressverein society and was supported by Theodor Wacker .

From 1885 to 1898 Ferdinand Kopf was a member of the second chamber of the Baden state parliament for the central parliamentary group . During this time he was involved in the church administration of denominational charities and school foundations. He also worked on the implementation law for the civil code . From 1901 to 1921 he was again a member of the state parliament. During this time he was spokesman for church politics for the parliamentary group and twice president of the budget commission. Mainly head dealt with the reduction of the effects caused by the Kulturkampf legislation on the Catholic Church. In 1918 he became president of the second chamber. From January 5, 1919 until his departure on October 7, 1921, Ferdinand Kopf was President of the Constituent National Assembly .

In 1890 Kopf was appointed to the citizens' committee for the first time . There he was chairman of the city council from 1911 to 1926. He was then a member of the city ​​council from 1926 to 1930 . From 1907 to 1909 Ferdinand Kopf was a member of the district council , and in 1919 its chairman.

Other memberships

Head became a member of the KDStV Hercynia Freiburg im Breisgau in the CV shortly after it was founded . After 1885 he stood up for the 'Mittelbadischer Bauernverein' by founding local groups and taking on legal affairs for its members. In 1899 Kopf became President of the Catholic Citizens Association and chairman of the Freiburg group of the Catholic People's Association.

In 1927, at the age of 70, Ferdinand Kopf became an honorary citizen of the city of Freiburg in Breisgau. The law faculty awarded him an honorary doctorate .
