Hermann Kopf (born May 29, 1901 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † May 5, 1991 ibid) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

Hermann head, son of the lawyer and the center deputies Ferdinand head (1857-1943), studied after graduating from the Berthold High School from 1920 jurisprudence at the University of Freiburg , where he was awarded his doctorate in 1925th Like his father, Kopf was a member of the KDStV Hercynia Freiburg im Breisgau in the CV since 1919 . After serving as a government councilor in the Baden Ministry of the Interior in 1928/29, he settled in 1930 in Freiburg im Breisgau as a lawyer. From 1940 to 1944 he was obliged to serve as a legal assistant in the Saarbrücken district office. On November 27, 1944, Hermann Kopf lost his two children and his wife in the bombing of Freiburg . After the Second World War , he became Vice President of the Baden Bar Association . In addition to his professional activity, he also published publications on Freiburg's city history.

In 1951/52 he represented - albeit ultimately in vain - the state government of Baden before the Federal Constitutional Court in the dispute against the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg and for the continued existence of the state of Baden. Like his father, Hermann Kopf was an honorary citizen of the city of Freiburg in Breisgau.

Political party

During the Weimar Republic , Kopf belonged to the center and was the citizens' committee of the city of Freiburg from 1930 to 1933. In December 1945 he participated in Freiburg im Breisgau in the founding of the Baden Christian Social People's Party , which later became the Baden regional association of the CDU. From 1946 to 1949 he was again a member of the Freiburg City Council.

MP

He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1969. He was directly elected in all ballots in the Freiburg constituency. From May 25, 1960 to 1969 he was chairman of the Bundestag committee for foreign affairs .

From July 16, 1952 to November 29, 1961, Kopf was also a member of the European Parliament and from 1953 to 1969 a member of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe .
