Hans Stercken
Hans Stercken (born September 2, 1923 in Aachen , † June 26, 1999 in Bonn ) was a German journalist and politician ( CDU ).
Life and work
After graduating from the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in 1942 , he took part in the Second World War as a soldier until 1945 , most recently as a lieutenant in the reserve. He was involved in the July 20, 1944 conspiracy , but hid in Belgium. After the subsequent French captivity , he began in 1946 to study classical philology , archeology , German studies , history and education , which he finished in 1952. During his studies, Stercken became a member of the KDSt.V. Novesia Bonn in the CV . In 1952 he was at the University of Bonn with the work Gallus gallinaceus - studies on the monograph of the house tap in antiquity to Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked until 1954 as an editor at the Bonner Rundschau . From 1954 to 1968 Stercken worked as a consultant for Western and Southern Europe in the Federal Government 's Press and Information Office. From 1969 to 1976 he was executive director of the Federal Agency for Civic Education .
Hans Stercken was married to Annemarie Stercken and had five children.

From 1946 Stercken was a member of the CDU.
MP
From 1976 to 1994 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee from 1985 to 1994 . From 1985 to 1988 he was President and from 1990 Honorary President of the Interparliamentary Council of the Interparliamentary Union IPU . With him, a German parliamentarian was appointed to the chairmanship of this important global parliament for the first time.
Hans Stercken has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Aachen constituency .
Social Commitment
Stercken was particularly committed to deepening Franco-German, German-Israeli, German-African and German-Turkish relations. He was President of the Association of German- Greek Societies and Federal Chairman of the German-Turkish Friendship Association. V./Hürriyetçi Türk-Alman Dostluk Cemiyeti (HÜR-TÜRK) . He advocated viewing the Turkish-German friendship relationships separately from the Germany-Turkey situation and referred to the ties that have existed with Turkey since the 1960s. From 1978 to 1987 he was the founding chairman of the German Africa Foundation . From 1990 Stercken was also President of the German-Atlantic Society . He was the first chairman of the Society for International Castle Studies Aachen e. V. (GIB).
From 1972 to 1980 Hans Stercken was chairman of the CV council and old gentlemen's association of the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations (CV) .
