Hans Furler (* 5. June 1904 in Lahr , † 29. June 1975 in Achern ) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

After graduating from high school at the Humanist Gymnasium in Lahr , Hans Furler, who was a Roman Catholic , studied law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg . During his studies in 1922 he became a member of the Teutonia Freiburg fraternity . In 1925 he passed the first state examination in law, and in December 1928 the assessor examination. Just six months ago, he was at Gerhard Anschütz in Heidelberg with the dissertation The police emergency law and the obligation to compensate the state for Dr. iur. PhD . He initially worked as a lawyer in Pforzheim , but took up a lectureship in patent law as early as 1930 . In 1932 he completed his habilitation at the TH Karlsruhe with the thesis possession, traffic validity, forfeiture in competition law , which in 1940 appointed him extraordinary professor for commercial legal protection and copyright . From 1941 to 1944 he was conscripted for the German civil administration in occupied Alsace .

Hans Furler joined the SA in 1934 and was a member of the NSDAP from 1938 . From 1945 to the conclusion of his denazification proceedings in 1948, he worked as a legal advisor in his in-laws' paper mill, August Koehler AG in Oberkirch (Baden) . In 1948 he opened a new law firm in Freiburg. From 1950 he taught at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . From 1958 to 1966 he was honorary president of the German Council of the European Movement .

Political party

Furler joined the CDU in 1952. In the same year he became chairman of the economic policy advisory board of the Baden state association.

MP

Furler was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1972. In 1953 he moved into parliament via the CDU Baden-Württemberg's state list and from 1957 he represented the constituency of Offenburg . From 1953 to 1957 he was deputy chairman of the Bundestag committee for industrial property rights and copyright. From May 10, 1957 until the end of the second legislative period , he was chairman of the special committee “Common Market / Euratom”. From January 29, 1959 to May 25, 1960 he was chairman of the Bundestag committee for foreign affairs .

He was also a member of the Joint Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community ( ECSC ) from July 1, 1955 to March 19, 1958, and from 1956 as its President. From 1958 to 1973 he was a member of the European Parliament , from 1960 to 1962 as its President, until 1973 as Vice-President.

Awards

Furler was awarded the Grand Cross of the Federal Cross of Merit in 1958 . On July 3, 1962, his place of residence in Oberkirch made him an honorary citizen .

On May 22nd, 1976, the new high school building in his hometown Oberkirch was inaugurated, which has since borne his name: Hans-Furler-Gymnasium .
