Masset was one of the founders of the Freiburg trade fair and headed the general secretariat of this showcase for the cantonal economy for 15 years.

In 1961, at the age of 41, he was elected as a representative of the FDP in the Grand Council , to which he belonged for three legislatures.

In 1962 Ferdinand Masset was elected to the General Council of the City of Freiburg. While retaining his mandate as a councilor, he became a non-permanent member of the municipal council in 1966, where he headed the social welfare office for four years and the "Culture and Tourism" department for another five years. For four years he was a member of the city finance commission.

As a former State Councilor, Ferdinand Masset had to represent the canton in several high instances. In 1991 he headed the cantonal commission for the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. In the same year he also headed the “Saving campaign for the state” commission. He was also, but not at the same time, a member of the commissions for tax recourse, study grants, the canton's economic development and the construction of the new university for technology and architecture.

In recognition of his services, Ferdinand Masset was awarded the Freiburg Tourism Association (FTV) prize in 1991. In the sports sector, he headed the Club athlétique de Friborg (CAF) and the Friborg Olympic Basket Ball Club for several years , of which he was elected honorary president. In the social field, he was the cantonal president of Pro Senectute from 1987 to 1993 . As for culture, he helped found three institutions: the Museum of Stained Glass in Romont , the Minster Treasure of St. Nicholas and the Musée du Pays de Charmey . Ferdinand Masset died on March 31, 2014 at the age of 93 in Freiburg.
