The Municipio Fernández Alonso (also: Fernández Alonzo ) is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Fernández Alonso is one of five Municipios in the Obispo Santistevan Province . It borders the Municipio San Pedro to the northwest and west , the Municipio Mineros to the southwest and south , and the Province of Ñuflo de Chávez to the east and northeast . It extends from west to east up to 30 kilometers and from north to south up to 35 kilometers.

The central place of the municipality is the small town Fernández Alonso with 5,273 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southern part of the municipality; The second largest town is Chané Independencia with 2,612 inhabitants.

The Municipio Fernández Alonso is located in a tropical, humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region has only been opened up in the last few decades and was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .
