The Lugano-Ponte-Tresa-Bahn , abbreviated to FLP , Italian : Ferrovia Lugano-Ponte Tresa , officially Ferrovie Luganesi is a narrow-gauge private railway in the Swiss canton of Ticino . Opened on June 5, 1912 under the name Soscietà Ferrovie Luganesi (FL), the railway runs from Lugano to Ponte Tresa . Since the timetable change on December 9, 2007, trains have been running every 15 minutes and every 30 minutes in the evening, on weekends and public holidays. The route is integrated into the Ticino S-Bahn network as line S60 .
There were once four narrow-gauge railway companies in the Lugano region. In addition to the FLP, these were the Lugano-Cadro-Dino-Bahn (LCD), the Lugano-Tesserete-Bahn (LT) and the Lugano tram . With the exception of the FLP, all operations have been closed and replaced by buses .
Railway line
The FLP train station in Lugano is located around 50 meters from the SBB train station in a cut. In two short tunnels , the Gotthard line of the SBB and the western districts of Lugano are crossed. After the Sorengo stop , the route goes along the south bank of the Laghetto di Muzzano . To the west of the Cappella d'Agnuzzo , the train runs parallel to the A2 motorway to Bioggio Molinazzo . She goes around the Lugano-Agno airport in a wide arc . Via Bioggio and Agno (where the depot is located) the train reaches the western branch of Lake Lugano . A golf course is crossed between Magliaso and Caslano . The route ends in Ponte Tresa not far from the Italian border.
The entrance to the Agno depot is via one of the rare symmetrical double switches .
In order to be able to offer 15-minute intervals at peak times, the FLP tackled a number of major construction projects in 2004 and 2005 (double lane at Cappella-Agnuzzo, between Bioggio and Agno and between Magliaso and Caslano). In 2018, FLP ordered nine low-floor tram trains worth CHF 47 million from Stadler Rail . The aim is to renew the fleet from 1978 and greatly expand the service. This is necessary after a growth of around 70% within the last ten years to 2.5 million passengers per year.
