The St. Georgen branch church , located near the state border with Slovenia on a hill near Loibach in the municipality of Bleiburg , belongs to the Bleiburg parish .

Building description

The small, originally Gothic building with a gable roof and half hip was converted to Baroque style and extended to the west. A pointed pyramid crowns the mighty tower on the south wall of the choir. The church is entered through the pointed arch portal in the south. The nave has a flat ceiling. The original dimensions of the nave can be read from the jagged frieze painting on the long walls. A pointed triumphal arch connects the nave with the two-bay choir. The choir with a five-eighth end comes from the second half of the 15th century. It is supported by two-tier buttresses . Its ribbed vault rests on high-quality head consoles. The painted keystones show stonemasons and the Lamb of God . There are painted ornamental circles on the choir walls.

Facility

The baroque high altar was built in 1656. It consists of an aedicule over a small base with side console figures in front of wide, lateral ears and a high aedicule with scale pilasters , volutes and cartilage as an attachment. The column shafts are decorated with vines. The central niche contains the statue of St. George . The two late Gothic side figures, a Madonna and Child and St. Bartholomew , were created around 1520 in the vicinity of the Karnberg master. The top picture shows Maria as a child with her parents Anna and Joachim .

The left side altar, made around 1675, is a richly decorated cartilage altar with a three-zone structure over a small, predelle-like base. The first and second zones have the shape of an aedicle with side parts, the top forms a niche with side figures. The whole structure of the altar is covered and framed with rich cartilage. At the center is a group of figures of the Holy Family , flanked by Saints Joachim and Anna. Above that, the birth of Christ and adoration are shown in fully plastic groups. The statues in the tower are Saints Mary, Anna and Joachim.

The right early Baroque side altar was built after 1650. It consists of an aedicule above a high base, a vertical frame with side console pilasters as an attachment and an IHS symbol in a scrollwork cartouche as a crown. The base and the side ears are decorated with fittings and scrollwork. The altar niche contains the statue of Maria Magdalena , the top picture shows the appearance of the Holy Trinity . The pulpit from the middle of the 18th century shows the four evangelists and Christ as the Good Shepherd on the parapets . A dove of the Holy Spirit is attached under the sound cover decorated with lambrequin .
