The Roman Catholic Church of St. Georgen in the village of Sankt Georgen in the Rennweg am Katschberg community is a branch church of the parish of St. Peter in Katschtal . She is the St. George consecrated.

history

The church is first mentioned in 1351 as a branch church of St. Peter in Katschtal. A renovation took place in 1513 and a new building from 1780 to 1782. After the tower was destroyed in a fire in 1860, the reconstruction was completed in 1892.

Building

The large late baroque hall church was built from 1780 to 1782 in place of a previous building that had been dismantled. The nave is three bays , the choir two bays. The tower on the north side of the nave is still Gothic in the lower part. The west gallery is two-storey: the lower singing gallery with closed parapet, above the organ gallery. The windows in the choir show stained glass.

Facility

The high altar

The high altar is a late Baroque, hexastyle shrine -Altar with sacrifice portals and essay. The altarpiece shows St. Georg slaying a dragon , painted by Josef Messner in 1881 . Assistant figures are the apostles Paul on the left and Peter on the right, both from 1883. In the essay, the Holy Spirit is depicted as a dove surrounded by angels.

In the shrine of the classicist left side altar (marked 1806) there is a late Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary Queen with Child. The classicist right side altar from 1838 has a baroque framed altarpiece from the 17th century. It shows St. Sebastian . The rococo pulpit dates from the 2nd half of the 18th century. Other furnishings include the console statues of the Man of Sorrows , the Mother of Sorrows and a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from the 18th century. The paintings of the Way of the Cross (around 1800) were transferred here from St. Peter in 1917.
