history

The church was first mentioned in documents around 1200 as “de s. Clemente ” . During the time of the Turkish invasions, it was expanded into a fortified church . The iron-studded doors, the steep, deep stone slab roof and the formerly fortified cemetery wall are witnesses of this time. In 1478 the complex is said to have been besieged by the Turks.

Building description

The building is a late Gothic staggered hall church with a slender, late Gothic tower on the south side of the nave, which is crowned by a baroque onion helmet.

The three-aisled, three-bay, staggered hall longhouse was probably built in the late Gothic period through the conversion of an older, single-aisle building and the addition of the aisles. The late Gothic vaults rest on pillars. In the central nave, the pointed barrel vault is provided with stitch caps and decorative mesh ridges, the side aisles are equipped with groin vaults. A wooden singing gallery has moved into the west of the nave. On it are parapet pictures of Christ, Mary and the twelve apostles from the 18th century. In the one-yoke choir with five-eighth closure from the beginning of the 15th century, a groin vault rises on console services , which are decorated with two angel heads. The former sacristy on the north side of the choir was redesigned in the baroque period and opened to the choir and the north aisle. Today's sacristy is an irregular polygonal extension south of the choir, which can be part of a former charnel house . In the tracery and in the nuns' heads of the end of the choir, remains of the original, late Gothic colored glazing have been preserved.

Murals

The frescoes from the second half of the 15th century on the north wall of the choir depict the procession of the Three Kings , the Adoration of the Magi and Saint Clement . The angels with musical instruments and the evangelists in the vault date from the second half of the 15th century or from the 16th century. Century.

Facility

The high altar from 1711 with a carved antependium bears the carved figures of Saints Clemens, Andreas and Georg , the top picture shows the Holy Trinity .

The left side altar from 1686 consists of an aedicula on a small base with a carved antependium and side console figures under canopy arches made of acanthus tendrils , an acanthus cartouche with seated putti and a cherub head as an attachment. On the altar there is a figure of Mary, flanked by Saints Valentine and Anthony of Padua ; in the top picture the Holy Trinity.

The crucifixion altar has a flat carved retable with an oil painting from the first quarter of the 18th century. The pulpit from the last quarter of the 17th century stands on a late Gothic pedestal, which probably comes from a former baptismal font . The late Gothic crucifix was made in the St. Veiter workshop in the first quarter of the 16th century. On the north wall of the choir hangs a heavily reworked painting of St. Clement with a view of St. Clementen.
