The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Martin am Krappfeld is in the village of Sankt Martin am Krappfeld in the municipality of Kappel am Krappfeld in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia . The parish church of St. Martin belongs to the dean's office Krappfeld in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt . The parish church includes the branch churches of Passering, St. Klementen , St. Florian ob Mannsberg and St. Willibald . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

A previous building was a wooden church belonging to Noble Heimo, which was granted baptismal and burial rights between 991 and 1023 by Archbishop Hartwig of Salzburg . A stone church was consecrated in 1075 by the first bishop of Gurk, Günther von Krappfeld . After Rudger vom Krappfeld's death, the church went to the Gurk Bishop Roman I.

The church, which is essentially Romanesque , was expanded in the late Gothic and changed inside in the baroque period .

architecture

The church is built on a slope in such a way that the choir is higher than the nave.

The choir is marked 1558 in the northern corner on the eaves and has stone heads on the eastern corners. On the south side of the nave stands the Gothic church tower with a pyramid roof, on the west and south of the choir the sacristy closes . The rectangular Gothic west portal has a wooden door with probably Romanesque iron fittings. The roofs are covered with stone slabs.

The window openings of the flat-roofed nave and the northern side chapel date from the Baroque. The apex of the pointed triumphal arch is significantly higher than the flat ceiling of the nave and leads into the single-bay choir with a five-eighth end , which is significantly higher than the nave due to the hillside location. The star-rib vault in the choir has keystones in relief , and coats-of-arms with maker's marks on the other rib cuts. The late Gothic tabernacle with pinnacles stands on a slender base. Christ, Mary and the twelve apostles are depicted on the parapet of the painted west gallery.

Furnishing

On the baroque high altar from 1686 with sacrificial portals are the carved figures of Saints Martin , Ulrich and Nikolaus . The altarpiece is made up of the representation of the Holy Trinity and a final figure of Mary. On the left side altar from 1670 there is a figure of Mary in the middle, saints Katharina and Barbara to the side, and saint Florian in the top . The altar panel of the right side altar shows St. Nicholas. In the side chapel there is an altar dedicated to Johann Nepomuk . The former pulpit from 1730 is used as a popular altar . On the south wall of the nave hangs a crucifix carved around 1520 with tools of the Passion , which probably came from the workshop of the master Caspar von Friesach.
